These groups are six- to eight-week intimate gatherings where we explore the wisdom and impact of a chosen book on grief. Through reading together, we can find community and affirmation in the often-isolating experience of grief. We start each group with an inward focus via meditation and journal prompts, and then come together to share, connecting as a group. During group sharing individuals can offer the impact of the reading, quotes that stood out, or where their heart is in that moment. The intention is to have a safe space where you can be witnessed and honored in your grief as you witness and honor others in theirs. The book chapters provide structure as well as become catalysts to support deeper exploration of your individual grief. People describe these groups as powerful and healing.

Author and grief advocate, Marisa Lee, known as a “rabble-rouser of social healing,” shares her personal story of loss and her path to honoring her grief in her book Grief is Love. She challenges conventional notions of “healing” and provides a grief compass to point you toward your own heart. With one word chapter titles like “…Permission,” “Safety…,” and “…Feel,” Marisa offers wisdom for many complicated experiences within grief. Through her personal stories of loss, she processes what “healing” actually looks like. She invites the reader to consider their losses—old or recent—and make compassionate space for the mix of emotions and unruly timelines that accompany grief. Exploring her experience as a grieving Black woman and the impact of grief on marginalized groups, she generously welcomes each person’s radical authentic beautiful and unique expression of grief. Her hope is this book will point you in the direction of honoring your loss as you find beauty and joy in a life alongside your grief.
